Birmingham Tutor Company helps people to prepare for functional skills English level 2 exams. This functional skills qualification is a GCSE equivalent, which will be very useful when applying for a job in the UK or when applying for a university course. If you do not have a GCSE in English when applying for an apprenticeship in the UK you will be required to get a level 2 qualification before starting.

The Functional Skills English Level 2 online exam is provided by MME and is preformed remotely, which means that as long as you have access to a computer or laptop with a working webcam and microphone with a stable internet connection you will be able to take the exam. Prior to the exam, you will be sent an invitation via email to an online video call by one of our Ofqual-approved invigilators, where they will go through the various checks they need to conduct in order to allow you onto the exam. After you have been set up, the invigilator will monitor you throughout the exam in order to make sure the exam goes as smoothly as possible.

You will need to complete 3 separate exams to earn the functional skills English qualification: Reading, Writing and the SLC. The Reading and Writing exams are sat back-to-back, each taking 1 hour for a total of 2 hours. The SLC, or Speaking, Listening and Communication exam, will take place separately and you will be giving a presentation to the invigilator and 3 other learners.

At Birmingham Tutor Company, we recommend that you do between 50 and 60 hours of revision before sitting the exams.

There are various revision materials available to you when purchasing the functional skills level 2 English online exam, with the cheapest offer at £225. These revision materials can be found on the MME website, and include a variety of past papers and revision cards to help you learn the content and pass your exams.

We can also recommend Pass Functional Skills as an alternative provider of the Functional Skills English Level 2 exams.

The Exam

The exam that both MME and Pass Functional Skills provide is an online exam, meaning that you will be able to sit the exam from the comfort of your own home. All that you will be required to have on the day of the exam in order to take it will be a computer with a working webcam and microphone and a stable internet connection. This is in order for you to be able to communicate with your Ofqual-approved invigilator who will contact you on your exam date to help you set up your exam.

By taking and passing the exam, you will earn yourself a Functional Skills qualification, which is recognized by most colleges and universities as well as employers as a GCSE equivalent qualification, allowing you to gain access to courses provided by colleges and universities as well as increasing your chances of employment in the UK.

To earn your Functional Skills qualification, you will be required to pass all 3 parts of the Functional Skills English Level 2 Online Exam. The 3 parts of the exam will be testing your abilities and knowledge of the English language in different ways. The first part, the Reading, will be testing your abilities to analyze text and pick out knowledge to answer questions. The second part, the Writing, will be testing you on your creative writing abilities, requiring you to write a long-form response to a given scenario. And finally, the SLC, or Speaking, Listening and Communication will be testing your abilities to communicate to other learners. Each of these parts will last roughly 1 hour, and you are required to pass all 3 parts in order to achieve the qualification. We recommend that you spend at least 50-60 hours revising before you take your exam. To assist in your learning, we also recommend that you have a look at the Functional Skills English Level 2 course, which supplies in-depth coverage of the curriculum to help you prepare for your exam.
