At the Birmingham Tutor Company, we have the goal to help anyone who is taking the Functional Skills English Exam in developing their English Skills. We do this with our tutoring services, as well as providing information and access to high quality revision resources. Today we will be talking about the revision resource Functional Skills Level 2 English Past Papers, as well as how you can effectively use the papers in your revision plan.
The English Past Papers themselves can be found on numerous sites, however one thing to note is that any papers used before 2019 will be useless as the specification for the exam was reformed in 2019. The Pass Functional Skills Site has some of the highest quality Past Papers that were all used after 2019, there is also a good choice of exam boards so you can choose the Past Papers that best suit you!
Regarding the Exam Boards, the difference between their exams is mainly structure and time allotted for each exam. The curriculum and main topics in the exam however will stay roughly the same. Overall they are all still very valuable as a resource in your revision.
The Papers themselves should only really be used once you have a good grasp of the subject matter, as the papers will be just as hard as the actual exam. So using them too early into your revision will most likely lead to you failing the paper, greatly affecting your confidence negatively.
While taking the past papers themselves, we highly recommend taking them in exam conditions, as it will help mimic what the actual exam will be like. Helping you to become further prepared for your actual English exam. This is important as time management is key when taking your exam, using too much of your time on a question with little marks could have a big impact on how you answer the rest of the questions.
Lastly the Past Papers also come with their own marking scheme (no one will mark it for you!),so you can go through the past papers you have completed and mark them yourself. This gives the opportunity to see exactly where you are going wrong so you can focus your revision in those areas.
